The AVS Office has a library of over
300 books, videos and audio tapes on volunteer recruitment, volunteer
management, service-learning, community service, corporate volunteering,
usage of the Internet, fundraising, and other subjects of interest to
affiliated agencies. Most of the books are in English, and all of the
videos are in English, many with Arabic subtitles. There are a few
important books on volunteering in the Arab World in Arabic. In
addition, the library has a small but expanding collection of materials
on volunteerism in French from Volunteer Canada and the Centre National du Volontariat in
Paris.
The library has archives of affiliated agencies in Lebanon (mostly in Arabic) - including brochures, invitations, posters, annual reports, and periodicals. Affiliated agencies are encouraged to send these materials to AVS on a regular basis so that their box is as complete a record of their organization as possible. The library also has a large collection of brochures, invitations, annual reports, and periodicals from similar agencies abroad (almost all in English) to serve as examples and to generate ideas for Lebanese agencies. Affiliated agencies, students and anyone else interested in
volunteerism and related subjects may use the library during
AVS Office
Hours. Library materials cannot be taken out of the library since, in
most cases, they are the only copy in Lebanon. We will make copies of
selected pages (not whole books) upon request - at the cost of making
the copies. We also have catalogs of organizations and companies that
sell the books that are in our library so that those who are interested can
order their own copies directly from the vendor. |
